Everything you need to know to become a startup veteran

How exactly do you go from idea to prototype to market? How do you get your first user, and how do you get your 1 millionth user? How does one identify a working revenue model and start making profits? And finally, how do you approach venture capitals and raise your first seed fund? These are questions founders only worry about when they don’t exactly have clear a path forward. And that’s completely normal because when you’re building a startup, there’s a lot going on at once. But that’s exactly why it’s so important to know what to expect when building your first scalable startup.

Do you know the different ways you can drive huge amounts of traffic to your website or app from day 1? And do you know how to create a solid inbound marketing strategy and automate your growth? These are just two of the many questions to which, if you said no, you’re going to have a really hard time when you finally get down to work. I’ve seen so many founders jump right into product development and spend thousands of dollars, only to max out on about a hundred users or customers – which is most cases is just friend and family of the founders. In other cases, I’ve seen founders spend months planning the concept of their business but never actually being able to fully build a product that they’re happy with. And finally, I’ve seen founders walk out of investor pitches with zero hope, after not having been able to give a single satisfactory answer to the incredibly hard questions that they were asked. Why do founders find themselves in such positions so often? And is there a better way to do things?

And the answer to that is, of course there is! Almost all successful founders have a few things in common that they did right way before they pitched to investors, or even made their product. 

For one, they follow an extremely systematic way of identifying and analyzing the scope of the problem before jumping into designing solutions. Second, they are able to design consumer-oriented products, rather than forcefully find solution-oriented consumers. Third, they set themselves up to be in a position from which they could micromanage their growth and be in a constant state of acceleration. They put growth before profit. Fourth, they follow agile product development methods and focus on feedback and iterations over hasty product completion. And finally, they understand that all decisions in startups are based on assumptions, not facts, and so they constantly track, measure and test their assumptions, until they have enough confidence in their assumptions to make decisions based on.

Now all this that I said, may sound a little overwhelming to you, if you hadn’t properly thought about approaching your startup like this.
